“Jesus said, Love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your mind.
This is the greatest and most important command.
The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you,” my momma always said. Funny isn’t it how these little sayings we learned as children hold so much wisdom for us to live out good, godly character. The Golden Rule is “golden” for the wealth it brings to our lives and to the lives of those around us.
I treasure “car conversations” individually with my children. Just recently my youngest and I were talking about others who may or may not treat us kindly. I encouraged her to always treat others with kindness. Kindness is free! And sometimes it is up to us to show ourselves friendly first. Proverbs 18:24 says, “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
Why do we wait for others to be friendly and show kindness to us first?
Could it be that our heart has been hurt, bullied, or pushed around unkindly in the past that brings hesitations to our acts of kindness?
This friend that sticks closer than a brother is Jesus and He knows full well the hurt and feelings of rejection. But He loves anyway! May we follow after Jesus in His example of loving others and showing kindness. Kindness is one of the fruits of the Spirit. When we accept Jesus as our Friend ~ He sews Kindness deep in our beings. We just have to nature it and cultivate it into the relationships in our lives.
Loving our neighbors comes easy when we practice the first and greatest commandment.
Love the Lord your God with…
All your heart.
Our physical hearts beating within in our chests remind us that we are living and breathing beings with a life being lived out on this earth for a limited number of days. Days that are meant to have meaning and purpose lived out. Loving God with all of our heart means living each day intentionally to bring Him honor. Live life to the fullest with a life that says to others that your life is lived to love your Life Giver.
All your soul.
Our souls are created for eternity. Friends and followers of Jesus are Heaven bound! When our hearts quit beating, our souls will live on. Our love relationship with Jesus is an eternal one to be embraced with intensity and invest in it continually. He is the Lover of our souls…may the love that we have for God burn deep from our souls that will give off a sweet aroma to those around us.
All your mind.
The thoughts from our minds affect our feelings and actions. Satan spins webs of lies in this powerful place that controls the way we view ourselves and those around us. Loving God with our mind must be a focused effort. Choosing to dwell on His goodness, greatness, and faithfulness leads us to have a deep fondness and adoration for Him. Adoring God diminishes satan’s schemes.
Take time to think of ways to love God with all your HEART, with all your SOUL, and all your MIND today. What does it look like to love Him in all these areas of your life?
