“…and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
Watermelon, smells of charcoal, water splashing, fireworks booming and lighting the sky,
these are the thoughts I have when I think of celebrating July the fourth in our amazing country…the land of the free and home of the brave.
The fourth of July has always been a highly anticipated holiday for my family. We are very much patriotic and passionate about celebrating the freedoms we have. We have always gathered with friends and family at a local town park for the evening to picnic, play frisbee, toss the football, light sparklers and be amazed with colorful fireworks lighting up the night sky. We will very much miss this tradition this year!
Even though we may not be able to keep the tradition of celebrating the fourth of July as we normally have, we can still celebrate the freedoms we have in this country as well as the freedom we have in Christ.
I couldn’t agree more with the statement that “the best things in life are free.” Many of the intangible blessings in life are free to us…but theses blessings have actually been paid by someone else. Someone else paid a high price and sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy in our country today, but Jesus paid the ultimate price for our spiritual freedom.
When we accept Jesus and trust Him as our Lord, there is an invisible veil that is removed. Sin is removed and we are given liberty from its guilt, chains, and bondage to live freely in Jesus. The dark sin and shame has been replaced with life and light. This freedom allows our lives to be “fireworks” on display to those around us.
It is time that we pay the price of freedom forward as so many others and Jesus has done for us. We need to share the hope of Jesus to this dark world. I am exhausted from the depressing news of our world today and am praying for the Lord to continue to be our hope. Having hope is having a confident expectation that He will continue to bring freedom and liberty to our lives. Expect goodness. Expect the Goodness of God instead of doom and gloom.
How do we do this?
Fix your eyes on Jesus!
Remember and celebrate your freedoms.
Expect God to continue in His faithfulness.
Declare His Goodness to those around you.
Open your heart to God & others.
Make a difference. Do something to leave an eternal impression in someone else’s life.
Because “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is FREEDOM!”
